Hello everyone. It’s fall here in Calgary and I am getting ready to leave on a 7-8 day road cycle touring trip from Calgary west into the Rockies. So far the weather looks great, but as we all know, it can be unpredictable In Southern Alberta!
I have had little time to prepare so I am busy thinking and packing today on Saturday and Sunday October 4 and 5 2014. Cycle touring is interesting from a packing point of view. What should I bring and not bring? Should I be completely self contained or lighten some of the load by credit card touring some or all of the journey or do I blend a mixture of the two? The latter choice seems most reasonable. I have to use the gear I have purchased.
I finally left on Monday October 6 at about 11 AM. Much later than I thought. The weather was perfect for riding although I did have a headwind- the rider’s worst enemy.
I left Calgary the back way from an exit from Bearspaw Golf Course I like to call “the Bearspaw Gate”. This put me on Highway 1A my home for the next 70 km.
I would pass by or through Cochrane, the Wildcat Gas Plant, Ghost Reservoir and Morley before turning South on Highway 1X Seebe towards my destination Bow Valley Provincial Park Campground. It’s a great campground with showers and a store and this evening what appears to be a full moon. I travelled about 86 km which is a good day.
Sleep beckons by the Bow and by the light of the moon. Until tomorrow…..goodnight!

I agree no matter what you do you cannot eat enough calories to keep up!
